TANAH RATA: The Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce the full Cameron Highlands by-election results, the latest by 10pm on Jan 26.
EC Chairman Azhar Azizan Harun said they will also announce the initial result of the polls through the commission’ portal and at the main official vote tabulation centre.
“For the by-election, the EC expects the percentage of voter turnout to around the 70 per cent range.
“The Election Commission hopes that the voters will come out and exercise their right and responsibility,” Azhar said in a press conference after the completion of the nomination process for the Cameron Highlands by-election, here today.
Hd adds that for the by-election, EC had appointed 85 observers from 11 organisations comprising government agencies, non-governmental organisations and qualified local organisations to monitor the by-election process.
Azhar adds that EC had also introduced several improvements on the election process, including the establishment of two separate channels fro voters who are 60-years old and above as well as a special channel for 365 disabled voters.
‘The EC is also providing additional voting time of about 30 minutes. The voting period would be between 8am to 5.30pm compared to previous time period of between 8am to 5pm.
“We also introduced 18 additional channels at the voting stations which has many voters, making it 88 channels in operation compared to 70 voting channels previously,” he said.
He adds that the voting booths at voting centres had also been increased from two to three as well as live telecast of the vote tabulation through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
