KUALA LUMPUR: The move by Nurul Izzah Anwar to relinquish her PKR vice-presidency position and the party's Penang post was to allow her carry out her task and responsibility as the Permatang Pauh elected representative to the fullest.

Such a move would also allow her to voice out the aspiration of the people without it being undermined by political constraints said PKR secretary-general, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said Nurul Izzah has her own idealism and she seeks to fulfill the people's aspirations as soon as possible.

"For her (Nurul Izzah), this is not the time for politics, but rather it is the time to serve and focus in translating the people's hopes and aspirations.

"In addition, if she wants to speak openly, the first post that she will remember is that she is the daughter of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Secondly, she is a vice president and her name is huge ... when she is voicing out, people will misinterpret and think she has other intentions and is not a good team player, "he said.

Saifuddin was speaking after attending the Malaysia Today program, at Sri Pentas, today.

On Monday, Nurul Izzah dropped a bombshell when she announced her resignation as PKR Vice President and as the Penang PKR Chairman.

In addition, she also resigned as the Chairman of the Malaysian Technical and Vocational Education and Training Empowerment Committee (TVET).

Commenting further, Saifuddin, who is also Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, said he had met Nurul Izzah yesterday and had the opportunity to have a long chat on the issue.

He said Nurul Izzah informed him that she had performed the istikharah prayers and believes her action is the best way to enable here to focus fully as a member of parliament.

"She (Nurul Izzah) chose to be a regular (PKR) member and as a member of Parliament, so that she could bring the aspirations of the people without any constraints.

"The decision has nothing to do with the current political developments, including the actions of opposition MPs who had left their party.

"However, it is more to what is taking place at the national scene and not due to what is taking place in PKR itself," he said.
