ALOR STAR: Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said it accepted the 14th general election (GE14) outcome which saw the ruling coalition losing to Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Bashah, who is also Kedah Umno liaison committee chairman, called for the country's democratic system and the Constitution to be respected to preserve peace and stability.

He said, during his tenure as the menteri besar of Kedah, BN had carried the mandate given by the people wholeheartedly.

“We have carried out our duties wholeheartedly to ensure the welfare of the people, the development of the state and protection of the state.

“We pray that Kedah and Malaysia’s sovereignty will continue to be preserved,” he said.

In yesterday’s polls, the opposition pact won 18 out of the 36 state seats in Kedah, with Pas winning 15 seats.

BN, which won 21 state seats in the previous general election, only managed to retain three of them.

Bashah was one of those who fell along the wayside as he lost his Suka Menanti state seat to PKR candidate Zamri Yusuf, who won with a 6,251-vote majority.
