KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Malaysian government official is now critically ill in Baku, Azerbaijan, after suffering a heart attack.

It is learnt that the high-ranking individual was part of the Malaysian delegation attending the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, from May 1 to 3.

Sources told the New Straits Times that the official had suffered a heart attack yesterday and was rushed to hospital.

It is learnt that the individual's condition deteriorated today.

It is also understood that a special flight back to Kuala Lumpur is being arranged for the senior official.

The NST is withholding the individual's identity pending confirmation with the family.

Efforts are underway to obtain more information on the official's condition.
