PADANG TERAP: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s outburst against Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang by labelling the Pas president an infidel and traitor is just another example of the former premier’s extreme political trait.

Ummo Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the personal attack was nothing new, as the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman was known for going to the extreme when running down his political opponents.

Mahdzir said this was proven as Dr Mahathir had run down his opponents while he was prime minister and Umno president for 22 years.

“He is acting as if he had no feeling or compassion for his opponents.

“He is not bothered about the implications of his words,” he told reporters after visiting the family of former Padang Terap Umno division member Md Zain Saad in Kampung Baru, Kuala Nerang here today.

Md Zain passed away due to kidney complications at the age of 75 recently.

Mahdzir, who is also Education Minister and Padang Terap member of parliament said Dr Mahathir’s hatred towards his political foes could be seen from the way the latter attacked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“I think this is a political catastrophe (to the country) as Dr Mahathir just cannot stop attacking Najib as if the current government has done nothing for the people.

“He does not even stop attacking the government for even a minute.

“I think the people are getting tired of his senseless attacks against the country’s leadership.”

However, he said, Dr Mahathir could make a U-turn if he foresaw it could help achieve his agenda.

Citing an example, he said Dr Mahathir had hit hard at the DAP leaders when he was serving as the prime minister.

“Just tell me what he did not label DAP? He had gone to the extreme of attacking the DAP leaders and made them his No. 1 enemy when he was in power.

“But ever since he joined the opposition, the DAP leaders have become his best buddies and the way we see it, he now loves the DAP leaders to the extreme,” he said.
