KUALA LUMPUR: Window cleaners working at the CCTV headquarters in Beijing, China, had to hang on for dear life hundreds of metres above the ground when strong wind sent them swinging.

The only thing keeping the workers safe were the cables attached to the building.

Terrified onlookers in nearby buildings caught the moment and videos of the incident have gone viral.

In one video, the workers could be seen swaying left to right, nearly colliding into each other as they fought to maintain balance.

The workers can also be seen dangling from the centre of the massive structure that connects the two towers.

Beijingers said on social media that exceptionally strong wind had swept through the city, knocking pedestrians off their feet. Some people struggled to stay upright.

Standing at 768ft tall, the CCTV headquarters is the tallest building in Beijing.
