ALOR STAR: Renowned actor and film director Datuk Afdlin Shauki has been appointed as an adjunct professor at the School of Creative Industry Management and Performing Arts (Scimpa), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

The appointment was announced through an official UUM social media post on Wednesday, recognising his expertise and extensive experience in the field.

The multi-talented Afdlin, who is also Film Directors' Association of Malaysia (FDAM) chairman, has been active in the entertainment industry since the late 80s and has also ventured into politics.

An adjunct professor is a part-time professor who typically has a primary career outside of academia.

They are hired to teach specific courses, bring practical expertise, and often engage with students and faculty on a short-term basis without the prospect of tenure.

For the record, Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, better known as Chef Wan, previously received a similar title at the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Environmental Management (Sthem), UUM in March 2017.
