KULAI: Six people were severely injured in a collision involving a lorry and two cars at KM36.6 of the North-South Expressway last night.

District police chief Superintendent Tan Seng Lee said preliminary investigations revealed that the southbound lorry driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the expressway's centre metal guardrail, causing a chain reaction.

The lorry then veered into oncoming northbound vehicles.

The driver of a Honda BR-V was unable to avoid the lorry and crashed head-on into it.

This was followed by a Honda Accord, which was behind the sport utility vehicle and could not evade the collision in time.

Tan said there were no fatalities in the 11pm accident, but all six victims sustained head injuries and physical trauma.

"Emergency responders were quick to arrive at the scene to provide immediate medical assistance before the victims were rushed to the nearest hospital," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
