KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) issued 47,003 notices for various traffic offences in its five-day operation codenamed Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha which started on June 10.

RTD senior director (enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said more than 200,000 vehicles were inspected during the operation which ended yesterday.

From the number, a total of 1,767 vehicles were seized and the vehicles comprised 1,462 cars, motorcycles (192) and others (113).

"The highest number of summons were issued for driving without a competent driving license at 12,188, followed by expired vehicle license at 9,711 and other technical offences (8,109).

"There were also cases where motorists were issued with notices for breaching the traffic lights and overtaking the double-line," he told reporters after joining a special operation here last night.

Accompanying him was state RTD director Mohd Misuari Abdullah.

Muhammad Kifli said the department also identified two express bus drivers for drug abuse.

The two, aged 42 and 61, were found positive with drugs during operations in Perlis and Negri Sembilan.

"They were detected during separate operations on June 13 and 14.

"Apart from seizing their driving licences, we will also question their company owners," he added.
