KULIM: Thirteen vehicles were involved in a pile-up at Km21 of the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) here today,  with three men and one woman sustaining injuries.

However, no casualties were reported by authorities.

Kulim Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Hamizul Azwan Hamdan said rescue teams were dispatched to the scene promptly after receiving distress calls at 7.37am.

He said the accident occurred at Km21 of the expressway heading towards Baling.

"Rescuers arrived at the scene at 8.02am, and early investigations indicate that a chain-reaction of accidents occurred, resulting in 13 vehicles colliding with each other.

"There were no fatalities, only three men and one woman were injured and required treatment. All other victims were rescued by civilians," he said in a statement today.

He added that all injured victims were taken to Kulim Hospital for further treatment.

"We are now conducting operations to clear out debris on the road to prevent any potential road hazards," he added.
