KUALA LUMPUR: His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor has hit out at attempts to link the royal institution to the alleged assault of an e-hailing driver.

"I do not condone any illegal action or intimidation," Tunku Ismail said in a statement.

"I urge the authorities to investigate thoroughly the incident where a police officer escort is alleged to have committed a harmful act."

He said he knew of a movement to drag the royal institution into the matter.

"But to link the actions of an external security personnel with myself and the entire royal institution is uncalled for."

Tunku Ismail said that when he was informed of the alleged assault, he immediately told the police's escort team to cooperate with investigations.

He said he wanted the authorities to act in accordance with the law and ensure the victim gets justice.

It was previously, reported that the police were probing the alleged assault, purportedly involving a bodyguard tasked with escorting a VVIP.

Later, the e-hailing driver, who is deaf-mute, lodged a report stating that the matter had been resolved and that he did not want to prolong the matter.
