KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has lauded His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, for taking a principled stance in upholding the rule of law over the investigation into the alleged assault of an e-hailing driver.

PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, in a statement, said that his party "welcomes and deeply appreciates" the principled statement made by Tunku Ismail.

"PN believes that His Highness's commitment to the rule of law and due process, rejecting actions or threats that contravene these principles, and ensuring justice for the victim is something all citizens expect in a democratic and dignified country," the statement read.

"This commitment not only reflects the quality of His Highness's leadership but also serves as a beacon of hope that the country can recover from the adverse effects of cronyism, selective prosecution, collusion, abuse of power, and other issues that have plagued us for a long time.

"Without strong commitment and political will, all talk, slogans, or dreams of a society and nation characterised by integrity, progress, justice, and transparency will remain mere words, slogans, and dreams without substance and proof."

It also added that PN "welcomes the statement by the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain", who earlier today said a thorough investigation into the case will be carried out and that all the officers involved will be summoned to Bukit Aman to assist in the investigation.

The IGP's assurance, PN said, that there will be no compromise on the perpetrator, along with the police force's commitment to uphold justice and protect individual rights, is also welcomed.
