KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall demolished unlicensed stalls at Bazaria Wangsa Maju yesterday.
In a Facebook post, City Hall said it had demolished 140 out of 165 stalls, with the remaining 25 stalls slated for demolition today.
The operation was conducted by City Hall's Licensing and Business Development Department, the Enforcement Department, the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department and the police.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa yesterday said City Hall carried out the enforcement because licensed traders were not happy about the unlicensed traders.
She added that the unlicensed traders also caused traffic congestion and used electricity and water from illegal sources.
She, however, instructed City Hall to consider granting licences to the 165 unlicensed traders through the Lestari Niaga initiative.
"Those who are granted licenses to resume business later will be relocated to the licensed stall area at Bazaria Wangsa Maju or to a nearby location.
"The Federal Territories Department is committed to ensuring that competitive traders are provided with the opportunity, through Lestari Niaga, to continue their businesses legally in a more conducive and structured stall site."
