KUALA LUMPUR: Despite receiving a directive from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), residents of Wangsa Maju Section 2 Flat persist in keeping their security grilles in place.

Berita Harian reporters, who checked the situation at Block F, found that there has been no change since the previous week. Additionally, fresh paint on the walls was observed, defaced to mock unit owners, highlighting a perceived contradiction between 'living in a flat and having condominium-like tastes'.

The building manager, Nini Farah Syafiqah Geni, 50, said that DBKL issued notices to all residents in Block F1, instructing them to remove the grilles within a 14-day period starting from Jan 10.

"If compliance is not met, DBKL will step in to rectify the situation. Some residents have inquired about why only their block received the notices.

"I clarified that residing in a strata area prohibits modifications. In the event of similar incidents in other blocks, residents of Block F1 are encouraged to report to DBKL," she said during a meeting with reporters.

Despite this, some residents have filed police reports due to concerns about their safety.

"The report was filed to convey to DBKL that the installation of grilles was not arbitrary.

"There have been instances of break-ins and stalking in the past. As a safety measure, residents in this block installed the grilles," she explained.

Nini added that this issue would be discussed during the upcoming annual meeting of Wangsa Maju Flat Residents in May.

"For now, we can consider this issue resolved, with any further actions contingent upon DBKL's discretion and the collective decisions of the residents," she said.

Previously, DBKL reported issuing the directive after complaints about security grilles obstructing the corridors of Wangsa Maju Section 2 Flat. The directive followed an inspection conducted by DBKL through the Commissioner of Buildings Kuala Lumpur (COBKL) on Tuesday.
