KUALA LUMPUR: The Wangsa Maju Road Transport Department (RTD) office here is still operating as usual but with some of its sections closed temporarily due to flooding yesterday.

RTD deputy director-general (planning and operations) Aedy Fadly Ramli told a Malay daily today that repairs were underway at parts of the RTD branch.

However, he confirmed that the premises was still operational.

"Only the affected areas are temporarily closed, not the entire building.

"There are only a few sections that need to be closed for maintenance processes, including in the driver's licensing section, but not all flooded areas," he was quoted as saying.

Aedy was responding to queries on viral videos showing rain water seeping through the ceiling allegedly taken at the Wangsa Maju RTD office. The footage shows some services counters, equipment and the floors drenched as water began filling up, believed to be during yesterday's heavy downpour here.

When asked about the extent of damage, he said the Kuala Lumpur RTD office was now estimating the losses and is preparing a comprehensive report on the incident.

Meanwhile, a statement from the RTD said the Trade Unit of the Vehicle Licensing Division of the department's Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory branch in Wangsa Maju has been temporarily relocated following the water overflow incident due to heavy rain yesterday.

It said operations at Gate 4 has been temporarily shifted to Gates 5 and 2 to ensure no disruption of the unit's operations.

"The department apologises for the inconvenience caused and always strives to ensure that the infrastructure of the JPJ office is at its best level," said the statement as quoted by Bernama.

It said in the incident at 2pm yesterday, there was an overflow of water in the office involved, and the incident went viral on social media.

The RTD has also collaborated with the Kuala Lumpur Public Works Department to identify the cause of the incident and carry out repair work for the safety and comfort of customers.
