KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from MyNewsHub's social media operator at its Cyberjaya headquarters last night.

In a statement today, MCMC said the case involved an old video titled "Tanya pasal kuarters jer dh kene mcm tu depan KSN!!" that MyNewsHub uploaded recently with misleading text that could confuse netizens.

"The suspect's SIM card and a mobile phone used to upload the video were seized to assist in the investigation."

MCMC said the investigation paper for the case would be handed over to the Attorney-General's Chambers when the probe was completed.

It said it viewed seriously the dissemination of the one-minute 10-second video as it could cause harm.

"It is a violation of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588].

"Based on a statement from the Public Service Department, the video is a simulation of the readiness of security personnel in the event of a provocative attack."

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both, upon conviction.

The public is reminded not to misuse network services and online applications to spread false content.
