KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has summoned MyNewsHub's social media operator for uploading an old video clip and causing confusion among netizens.

In a statement, the MCMC said it viewed the incident seriously.

It said MyNewsHub's social media operator would be called in to give a statement on the matter.

"The one-minute and 10-second video titled 'Tanya pasal kuarters jer dh kene mcm tu depan KSN!!' seems to aim to create a negative perception of civil servants.

"Based on the Public Service Department's media statement, the video is a simulation of security personnel's preparedness in the event of an attack."

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both, if convicted.

The public is reminded not to misuse network services and online applications to spread inauthentic or fake content.
