SERIAN: The Christian Catholic community in Serian can now look forward to the upcoming construction of the Serian Parish Pastoral Centre, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Archbishop Simon Poh of the Kuching Archdiocese announced the ambitious project, valued at RM18 million, aiming to provide modern facilities for religious events and community gatherings.

The announcement was made at the St Theresa Parish Serian's Fundraising Dinner on April 6, where Poh expressed hope for generous contributions from the Catholic community to realise this dream.

"The Serian Parish Pastoral Centre is envisioned to be a beacon of faith, offering advanced facilities for our religious and communal activities," Poh said.

He urged the Catholic community in the Serian Division to contribute wholeheartedly towards the construction fund.

The project coincides with the 97th anniversary of the St Theresa Parish Serian, approaching its centenary in three years.

Archbishop Poh highlighted the community's pride in its rich religious heritage and the anticipation of celebrating 100 years of Catholic faith in Serian.

Rector of St Theresa Parish Reverend Father Lazarus Swinie expressed gratitude to the parliamentary representatives of Serian, including the assembly members of Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup, and Bukit Semuja, for their RM10,000 donations each towards the project.
