KOTA KINABALU: A 6-year-old girl sustained injuries after her hand became trapped in an escalator at a hypermarket in Likas near here.

The incident, reported at 7:50pm, prompted a swift response from the local fire and rescue teams.

The Lintas Fire Station deployed a team of 10 personnel to the scene, arriving within minutes at 7:53pm.

Operations commander Mohd Faizal Alias led the rescue effort.

The rescue team quickly utilised special equipment, including an L-Key, to free the girl's hand.

Following the rescue, the child received immediate first aid from the Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) team on site.

She was then transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 for further medical attention.

The young victim suffered injuries to her hand. Her condition, although serious, is reported to be stable.
