KUANTAN: Two beauty salon workers experienced breathing difficulties while trying to escape from a fire on the first floor of a shophouse at Indera Mahkota here today.

The two, along with two other female workers were forced to climb up the roof of the three-storey building before they were rescued by firefighters and sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for further treatment.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said 19 firemen from the Indera Mahkota and Taman Tas fire stations were deployed to the scene after being alerted to the incident at about 4am.

"When firemen arrived, the first floor was of the building was burning and the four victims had climbed onto the roof. Firemen used a ladder to bring the victims down before sending two of them to hospital for further treatment.

"Firemen entered the first floor of the premises and the fire was successfully controlled from spreading to the other parts of the building," he said, adding the four female victims were locals aged between 30 and 46 years old.
