KUALA LUMPUR: Expressing its utmost concern and deep regret following the dissemination of a confidential Diplomatic Note dated Sept 23, 2023, Malaysia's Foreign Ministry on Friday said an internal investigation revealed that the unauthorised dissemination did not originate from within the ministry.

The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, in a statement said it considered the unauthorised dissemination of such documents an irresponsible act.

Wisma Putra in the statement regarding the circulation of a diplomatic document that was received by the Embassy of Malaysia in Rabat, Morocco, said that it had consistently underscored the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of diplomatic communication with friendly nations and other international partners.

"The Foreign Ministry has provided clarification to the concerned partner country and expressed its deep regret over the incident," it said.

Wisma Putra said a police report had been filed to initiate investigations, and the ministry is committed to offering full cooperation to the authorities throughout the process.

In light of the potential negative impact on the international community's confidence in Malaysia's image and integrity that such an action can cause, Wisma Putra urged an immediate halt to the circulation of the document. – BERNAMA
