KUALA LUMPUR: Several policemen assumed the role of midwives when they were on patrol on the North-South Expressway (NSE).

This happened when a heavily pregnant Thai national had to make a stop in the emergency lane to deliver her baby.

In a Facebook reel, the police said a Thai couple had stopped on the emergency lane before flagging down their mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) for assistance.

As the situation grew tense, the police officers had to jump in as impromptu midwives.

The baby was safely delivered with the help of the officers.

The social media post said the incident occurred while Inspector Mat Fauzi, along with Corporal Shahril and Corporal Hariz Zulfadli, were on patrol on the NSE, yesterday.

"The MPV was stopped and informed about the situation before agreeing to escort their vehicle to a nearby hospital.

"However, amid the tense situation, the woman successfully gave birth by the highway before the ambulance arrived," it said.
