KUANTAN: The Kuantan City Council (MBK) has come to the rescue of Terminal Sentral Kuantan (TSK) which is in poor condition and requires immediate repair.

Kuantan mayor Datuk Razihan Adzharudin said the MBK will assist with the repair works at the bus depot in Indera Mahkota to provide more comfort to the public.

"MBK has agreed to assist TSK's management to repair the public facilities, especially the washrooms and surau.

TSK's operations are handled by a third party after it was privatised in Sept 1, 2020," MBK wrote on Facebook.

On Jan 1, Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang visited TSK after the substandard conditions of the premises went viral on social media.

The Pahang Consumer Affairs Committee chairman said besides the malfunctioning escalators, the floor tiles were broken, the washrooms were poorly maintained and the cleanliness is not up to par.

He was reported saying the TSK management should take responsibility for the poor conditions and be more proactive because the terminal is a gateway for tourists.

Meanwhile, State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff, who conducted a surprise inspection of TSK, said the management has been told to make the necessary refurbishments.

"The TSK management has to ensure cleanliness and improve the facilities to ensure users feel comfortable and safe when at the premises.

I told the management to immediately carry out the necessary work.

"I visited the facilities at TSK including the ticket counters, toilets, business outlets and surau. I spoke to the management on the necessary improvements in order to deliver better services to users," he said.
