KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd (MPB), through the Media Prima Palestinian Humanitarian Fund, today handed over a donation amounting to RM700,000 to Mercy Malaysia.

The aim is to provide relief to the Palestinian population affected by the Israeli military's actions in Gaza. The effort also demonstrates the company's commitment to humanitarian efforts.

MPB chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid, represented the donors in handing over the contribution cheque to Mercy Malaysia president, Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus.

The funds will be allocated to procure essential medications and humanitarian assistance for those in need.

Meanwhile, Mercy Malaysia's president, Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, said that the focus of the given donation is to provide essential needs for the Palestinians.

"We are primarily directing the donation towards medical supplies and we are considering allocating a portion of today's contribution to address the crucial need for drinking and clean water.

"The third aspect pertains to food, and in addressing this, we will collaborate with both our partners and our on-the-ground team in Gaza," said Ahmad Faizal.

He said that the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict has led to a severe disruption of medical and health services in Gaza.

"As everyone is aware, these days, we witness how hospitals and medical centres in and around Gaza are heavily bombed and attacked by the Zionist regime.

"Many patients, whether injured due to bombings or those with pre-existing chronic conditions, are not receiving the necessary treatment.

"So, with this contribution, we anticipate that the ongoing effort will continue because, as we are aware, there are no signs yet that there will be a ceasefire or an end to the existing war or conflict," he told the reporters.

He also mentioned that Gaza has received at least seven shipments, facilitated by Mercy Malaysia in partnership with Malaysian allies, including the Egyptian and Palestinian Red Crescent.

The Mercy Malaysia team in Gaza, under the leadership of Dr Khamis Elessi and Dr Hassan, has ramped up its efforts since Oct 7, aligning with the onset of Israel's assaults on Gaza.

MPB is dedicated to providing active support to the individuals and victims affected by atrocities in Palestine, working in conjunction with seasoned non-governmental agencies and organisations with a proven track record in carrying out missions in the region.

The public is encouraged to contribute donations to the Media Prima Palestinian Humanitarian Fund via Muamalat Bank account: 1401 0008 8447 15 or Maybank: 5642 7651 0331.
