KOTA BARU: The Golok river in Rantau Panjang continued to breach it danger level tonight following heavy rain in the state.

As at 8.45pm, the river level was recorded at 10.18m which is 1.18m above its danger level of 9m.

Another river in Tumpat was measured at 2.26m which is 0.26m above its alert mark.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Kelantan continued to worsen with the number of victims standing at 4,530 people as at 8.47pm.

The 4,530 who were from 1,462 families, are now taking shelter at 12 relief centres in two districts.

The affected districts are Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah.

The SK Gual Tinggi relief centre recorded the highest number of victims at 898, followed by SK Gual Tok Deh (813) and SK Sri Rantau Panjang 2 (711).

Since the monsoon season hit the state on Nov 19, three lives have been claimed by the floods.

The first victim, a 23-month-old toddler, met a tragic fate in the river close to his home in Kampung Kenali on Nov 26.

A nine-year-old boy become the second victim when he was discovered drowned in an irrigation canal at Kampung Derdap on Nov 28.

On Nov 30, a 17-year-old youth lost his life while fishing at a river in Kampung Bukit Gading, Tanah Merah.
