ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor State Islamic Religious Council spent RM400,000 to install Wi-Fi facilities in 140 religious schools this year.

State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid (BN-Semerah) said the Wi-Fi installation has been completed in 20 religious schools in phase 1, while in phase 2, Wi-Fi devices were installed in 72 schools.

The remaining installations are ongoing and expected to conclude in December.

Mohd Fared said, in line with the state government's aim to turn Johor into a leader in the digital economy, 583 more schools have been identified, and Wi-Fi facilities will be installed in phases next year.

"Schools and mosques will be installed with Wi-Fi facilities in several phases," he said, during the 15th Johor State Assembly, held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar, near here, today.

Meanwhile, in the Sungai Balang constituency in Muar, the Johor Islamic Corporation installed Wi-Fi and smart televisions at Sekolah Agama Parit Jamil, Sekolah Agama Sungai Balang Darat, and Sekolah Agama Sungai Resik.

Mohd Fared said the initiative is aimed at enhancing online learning and teaching capabilities. He said the state is paving the way for a 21st-century learning environment in these schools while digitising mosques and surau.

Earlier, Selamat Takim (BN-Sungai Balang) asked about the state government's digital initiatives to elevate education and mosque facilities in the Sungai Balang constituency.

As of Nov 16, 151 mosques and surau in Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, and Mersing were installed with Wi-Fi facilities, amounting to RM470,404.80 in expenditure.

While in the Sungai Balang constituency, four mosques, namely Masjid Ubudiah Parit Limbong, Masjid At Taqwa Pt Pechah, Masjid Jamek AtTaqwa, and Masjid Al Ehsan Parit Jawa, were equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity. Almost RM900,000 has been allocated for Wi-Fi installations in 320 mosques and surau in Johor.

Mohd Fared said this investment aims to cater to various needs, including administrative affairs, educational activities, financial matters, community contributions, security measures, and local information dissemination.
