KUALA LUMPUR: Kang Wei Xian is an operations officer with the Civil Defence Force Special Team (Paspa), and despite the fact that the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) aircraft crashed five days ago, he is still devastated by the tragedy.

He was among those involved in the special operation together with the Fire and Rescue Services Department, the police forensics unit and the Health Ministry's forensics team.

"About 10 Civil Defence Force Special Team personnel were activated to carry out a Search And Rescue (SAR) operation for the victims of the crash at 3.15pm last Thursday

"Apart from that, Selangor APM also dispatched 13 members from the Klang and Petaling districts to aid and assist with the said operation.

An APM scene of the crash control post was also set up," he told Harian Metro.

APM's main objective or task is to assist the police and the Health Ministry's forensics teams in carefully removing the victims' remains from the crash site, Ground Zero.

"As a Paspa (Civil Defence Force Special Team) operations officer, my main task was to coordinate efforts to search and locate according to the stipulated DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) protocol.

"I was also the liaison officer between Ground Zero and the Operations Control Centre (PKOP). I was also involved in the operation to recover and collect all the victims' remains.

"It has been five days since the crash, but I am still heartbroken about what had happened," adding that his sympathies and thoughts went out to all victims and their families.

"It is hard to describe the sadness and despair seeing the bodies of the victims that were badly burnt. Most of the remains were not in perfect state," he said.

He said they did their best to look for the victims' remains at Ground Zero before handing it all over to the Health Ministry's Forensics team.

The devastating crash resulted in the loss of all eight individuals aboard the aircraft, along with two additional casualties among road users.
