KOTA KINABALU: Police have assigned more than 30,000 officers to assist six states involved in the state elections.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said in principle, the inspector-general of police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain had directed the existing personnel.

"Only if additional strength is required, will we then deploy personnel from Bukit Aman and other units from KDNKA, such as the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), General Operations Force (PGA), and the Marine Police Force (PPM).

"This is not an issue because we have sufficient strength," he told media members at the Esscom Media Awards Night 2023 here last night.

Hazani also reminded all political parties and their supporters to always comply with the regulations set by the government and the Election Commission (EC).

"I know and am certain that Malaysian voters are wise.

"Therefore, adhere to all laws and ensure that no unwanted issues occur throughout the election season," he said.

The EC has set the six-state elections to be held simultaneously on Aug 12, with July 29 being the nomination day.

Early voting day is set for Aug 8.
