KUALA LUMPUR: The action of a motorcyclist who kicked the door of a car after being blocked from overtaking at a blind spot has been condemned by the public as a foolish act.

Based on a video clip that gained 368,000 views on Twitter, the motorcyclist had taken out his anger at the car driver after the latter unwittingly blocked his path as both had just sided to the left at a junction.

The motorcyclist was seen catching up with the car and veering to the driver's side before releasing a kick. However, this caused him to lose his balance and fall on the road. The video then ended with a repeat of the kicking scene in slow motion.

Commenting on the incident, National Road Users Association acting president Fahami Ashrof Badaruddin said this incident could be classified as road bullying.

"It is not the driver's fault as overtaking from the blind spot is indeed wrong and dangerous.

"Instead of following the car and kicking the driver's door, the rider was supposed to keep calm and continue his journey. The rider's rash action has resulted in an accident that eventually inconvenienced other road users."

Fahami said road users should be more tolerant, especially during the festive season.

Netizens also shared similar views on the one-minute and 29-second video, which had gone viral for three days.

"Congratulations on finding the one blind spot on the entire road! But seriously, overtaking from the left is not only illegal but incredibly dangerous. Please make sure you're using your mirrors and stick to the right side of the road. We all want to get home safely, right?," @NSKO_yolo tweeted.

User @Mnaa58006372 said the rider should not take the risk of overtaking from the left as the area was hardly visible to the driver.

"It is called a blind spot. Luckily it is not a container truck or else, the rider might have died. Learn the law. It is his fault for kicking the door. Stupidity at its max."

User @inderasakti_kl asked why motorcyclists preferred to overtake just when a car was signalling to turn to the left, considering that the rider's life would be at risk.

"Sometimes the driver feels scared not because of the fear of their car getting scratched, but because of the rider's life if they fall."
