GEORGE TOWN: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak has given his consent for the state flag to be flown at half-mast on Monday (Sept 19) as a sign of respect for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Sept 8.

Acting State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zakuan Zakaria said it was also a sign of respect of Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years on the throne.

"In accordance with the consent, the State Executive Council has ordered all departments and agencies in Penang to fly the state flag at half-mast," he said today.

Prior to this, the Pahang flag was flown half-mast for three days from Sept 10 as a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II.

Pahang State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak had said that this was in line with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's directive.

Yesterday, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had given his consent for the state flag to be flown at half-mast for three days from Saturday (Sept 17) as a sign of respect for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah will represent Malaysia at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday (Sept 19).

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, died at 96, in Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8.

Her body will be buried next to her husband, the late Prince Philip.
