BAYAN LEPAS: Firefighters have been called to clean up a chemical spill inside a warehouse at the Penang International Airport (PIA) here this afternoon.
A hazardous materials (Hazmat) team from the Bayan Baru fire station was deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 5.28pm.
Operations officer Helmirizal Che Morad said, when they arrived at the airport warehouse, they found a chemical spill involving UN3264 corrosive liquid.
"About 1.5l of the chemical had spilled on to the floor and dried up. Cleaning works on the chemical spill was carried out using soda ash. The situation is under control," he said.
As of press time, cleaning works were still ongoing.
