KUALA LUMPUR: As much as it would be exciting to see Lai Pei Jing and Lim Chiew Sien pair up again, it is highly unlikely.
Chiew Sien told Timesport that the plan to partner with Pei Jing in the Australian Open women's doubles event was made on a whim without much thought.
Chiew Sien, who wants to focus on playing mixed doubles, also confirmed that the decision to partner with Pei Jing had nothing to do with the latter losing all her savings after falling victim to an investment scam two weeks ago.
"No, it (the scam) has nothing to do with that because when we registered to play in the women's doubles event, the incident had not happened.
"We just wanted to try our luck and see if we could make the main draw. Who knew we'd go all the way to the final," said Chiew Sien.
For the record, Pei Jing and her regular mixed doubles partner, Tan Kian Meng, crashed out in the mixed doubles semi-finals on Saturday, while Chiew Sien and her partner, Wong Tien Chi, failed to clear the first round.
When asked if there could be future tournaments for a Pei Jing-Chiew Sien combination, she added: "I really enjoyed and learned a lot from Pei Jing because she kept leading and guiding me since the first match. However, we believe this partnership is only a one-off thing.
"That said, we won't deny the opportunity if we get a chance like this in the future."
On Sunday, Pei Jing-Chiew Sien settled for second best after losing 12-21, 21-7, 21-13 to Indonesia's Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi in the Australian Open final.
