KUALA LUMPUR: A 46-year-old Malaysian man and his Thai wife were found dead in a house in Jalan Medang Serai, Bangsar here this afternoon.

Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said a real estate agent found the man and his 38-year-old wife lying unconscious in a bedroom in the three-storey terrace unit.

The couple had booked the unit through an online platform since Tuesday.

Anuar said the 27-year-old real estate agent had taken the unit's keys from the house owner at about 11am today, and he had gone to check on the couple after several attempts to contact them had failed.

"The house is a three-storey terrace unit, which was booked and rented using an online platform by the two victims on April 6, 2021.

"Initial checks revealed the victims are a couple who were married since 2018.

"Initial investigations at the scene also revealed the couple had burnt some coal in a room, closed the door and windows and straightaway went to sleep.

"Medical officers from the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) later confirmed the victims may have died between 6am and 7am on (Friday) April 9, 2021 due to suffocation from inhaling the smoke," Anuar said in a statement today.

He said a note written by the victim, which was meant for the victim's family was recovered from the scene.

A witness, who is a close friend of one of the victims told police that the couple had never related any problems, and that said the couple had no enemies, police said.

"Initial investigations showed there were no criminal elements in the case. The remains of both victims were sent to the UMMC for post-mortem and the case is classified under a sudden death report."

The Brickfields police has also urged the public against committing any acts that could bring harm or endanger one's self and their surroundings.

It urged those with questions or information on any case to contact the Brickfields Police Hotline at 03-2297 9222, Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999, or to approach any nearby police station.
