GEORGE TOWN: The body of a man, believed to have jumped off the Penang Bridge last Sunday, was found near a ferry terminal, here, this morning.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said Fire and Rescue Department personnel, conducting a search operation, spotted the body of the 24-year-old man floating near the Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda terminal.

"The body was taken to the Marine Police jetty in Gelugor to be sanitised before being sent to Penang Hospital for post mortem," he said in a statement today.

It was reported yesterday that the man had parked his Perodua Bezza at KM2.2 of the bridge with the engine still running. A mobile phone was also found at the scene.

The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted of the incident at 8.26pm.

When they arrived at the scene, the man was nowhere to be found and a search mission was immediately activated.

This was the second incident in a space of one week, after a 54-year-old man was said to have leaped-off the Penang Bridge at KM7.4 at about 1pm last Tuesday.

He left his wallet and motorcycle on the bridge before jumping off. His body was found the next morning.
