CHUKAI: A man is feared to have drowned after falling off the Bukit Kuang Bridge, near here, last night.

Kemaman District Police chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan, said the man fell from the bridge and was witnessed by several bystanders.

According to him, a foreigner who witnessed the incident contacted the police around 7.22 pm.

"The informant suspected that the victim, aged 44, had fallen off the bridge, which was 50 metres high, and the victim's action was also seen by several other members of the public who were around the banks of the river.

"The victim is believed to have ridden a motorcycle to the scene and examination of the motorcycle found several pieces of notes," he said.Hanyan said the victim, who hailed from Johor, was said to have come to work in the Kemaman district.

"We believe the victim was facing family problems and our team will conduct further investigation.

"Upon receiving the report, a search and rescue operation for the victim was immediately launched involving 30 police officers and personnel as well as assistance from the fire department," he said.

He said that last night, the search operation for the victim was conducted within a radius of about two kilometers from where the victim fell.
