IPOH: A woman and her child were injured after they fell off a motorbike at Taman Chemor Impian here yesterday.

In the 8.43am incident, the woman, 49, gave chase to a male suspect who had snatched her handbag at a road intersection where she was waiting for a traffic light.

The woman and her three-year-old child were on their way home after seeking treatment at the Tanah Hitam health clinic in Chemor.

The suspect, who is still at large, sped off in a red Yamaha Lagenda after snatching the woman's belongings.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby said the woman was angered by the incident and decided to chase the suspect.

"However, she lost control of her vehicle, and she and her child fell onto a dirt road," he said when contacted today.

The woman suffered injuries to her knees, feet and elbows while her child suffered a broken shoulder as well as head injuries, he said.

The victims are currently seeking treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.

"The woman was in a state of panic and does not remember the suspect's license plate number. She could not see his face as he was wearing a helmet," Ali added.

The woman's handbag, which was placed in the basket of her motorcycle at the time of the incident, contained her identification card, several bank cards and RM200 in cash.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code and police are gathering more information on the suspect, said Ali.

He added that there are no closed-circuit television cameras at the intersection where the incident took place.

"There were no witnesses at the scene, either," he said.
