KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will hand over power to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as agreed, says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) strategic director said he was confident that the transition would take place as he himself had borne witness to the agreement where Dr Mahathir would hand over the reins to the PKR president.

“Tun Dr Mahathir has an understanding with Datuk Seri and Tun will honour that promise,” said the health minister during a walkabout with officers carrying out a public awareness campaign on the smoking ban at eateries nationwide, which comes into effect today.

“As one of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders who witnessed the agreement, I have faith in Tun to do as he promised.

“There is no issue there.”

During the recently concluded second Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) annual general assembly, some delegates had proposed that Dr Mahathir be allowed to serve the full five-year term as prime minister.

In the run-up to the 14th General Election, PH component parties PKR, DAP, PPBM and PAN had agreed that Dr Mahathir would helm the premiership for two years before handing the post to Anwar.
