KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has set-up special team to investigate the controversy surrounding PKR election for the party’s Julau branch.

State MACC director Razim Mohd Noor said the probe was launch following reports that the e-voting process for the Julau branch on Nov 10 was marred with allegations of fraud and vote-buying by certain quarters.

The full report of the outcome of the probe, he said, will be submitted for the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya for further action.

“Yes, we are looking into the matter based on several reports lodged with Sarawak MACC,” he said when asked to confirm if his team of graft busters would launch a probe into the case.

Razim also confirmed the commission have received evidences in the form of USB thumb drive submitted by state PKR information chief Vernon Aji Kedit, who claims the party polls for the Julau branch was tainted with fraud and vote buying.

“The MACC view the allegations seriously and we will not compromise with any quarters using corrupt practices to get what they want,” he said.

Razim have his assurance that his men will leave no stones unturned in its investigation over the allegations beleaguering Julau PKR branch.

Sarawak MACC, he said, has been monitoring the running-up to party election for all 29 PKR divisions in the state including Julau.

It was reported that Vernon had lodged a report and submit the flash drive to the state MACC headquarters here yesterday.

Vernon, who is also PKR Betong chief, claimed the thumb drive contain “explosive” evidences to support his claims over the election process in Julau.

He had previously lodged another report at MACC seeking the commission to irregularities PKR Julau branch’s membership, which saw significant increase from 603 members to 13,000 members within a day in June.

Apart from vote-buying and irregularities in party members, the e-voting process for the Julau branch made news headlines over concerns of sabotage and cyberattacked.

Results for the election was suspended after the PKR Central Election Committee found 10 tablets used for the voting process ‘infected’ by the Prey-Anti Theft software.

Prey Inc, the software provider, since then has issued a statement denying that its application was capable to compromise the voting process.
