TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) has been giving scholarships to students with good grades to further their studies at public institutions of higher learning since 1993.
This year, TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie said Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN) was allocating RM10 million in scholarships specifically for students from lower-income families.
A thousand qualifying students will get the chance to continue their studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics degree programmes.
“Every student gets RM10,000 every year for his tuition fees and allowance until he completes his bachelor’s degree,” he said at a ceremony where he handed My Brighter Future scholarship certificates to 10 students enrolled at Mara Universiti of Technology.
One of the recipients, Siti Nor Aminah Satiman, from Muar, Johor, said she was thankful for the opportunity given to her.
“Currently, I am in my first semester. I am doing a degree in Quantity Surveying and hope to pursue my career in the construction industry,” she said.
YTN also offers scholarships to students to study at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Technical Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Universiti Tun Hussien Onn.
