GEORGE TOWN: A leukemia patient’s wish to fly in the clear blue skies became a reality today.
R. Ghaayathiraan, 18, from Butterworth, was the picture of happiness as he reached the Penang International Airport, accompanied by his parents and siblings.
Ghaayathiraan, although appeared weak due to his illness, was in high spirit when told that he would be taking to the skies to Pulau Langkawi, Kedah, using the Air Wing aircraft, belonging to the police.
His mother, V. Geetha Davi, 48, said she was touched when told that her second child’s wish would be fulfilled by the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (CWS).
“I received a call from a CWS official, who told me that my son would be taken on a flight with the help of police.
“When I reached the airport, I was shocked to see so many photographers around. I had initially though that a VIP would be landing,” she said when met.
Geetha Davi was in for more shock to find that the VIP was actually her family, and that the photographers wanted to capture the happy moments of Ghaayathiraan.
“As a mother, I am grateful to CWS and the police for fulfilling my son’s wish.
“My son did told me that he wanted to take me on a flight one day, and I am thankful that he is able to fulfil that wish,” she added.
Meanwhile, CWS Malaysia vice president, Teoh Teik Hoong, said the teenager’s wish to go on a flight was relayed to them by a doctor who attended to him two weeks ago.
“We then contacted Bukit Aman for assistance to take the boy on a ride and they agreed,” he added.
