IPOH: Perak is mulling to relocate its state government's administration buildings, here, to Meru Raya, the same venue where the new Menteri Besar’s official residence will be built.

Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Meru Raya was a fast growing area and there were already a number of administration offices and agencies operating there.

“This will ease the people as all the buildings are operating in one place. However, this plan needs to be studied and development research needs to be done holistically.

“We need to look into the social and economic needs, public transports of which these elements are important before we relocate the offices, just like what our Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had done before he opened Putrajaya,” he said.

Ahmad Faizal was answering a supplementary question from Dr Muhd Fadhil Nuruddin (PAN-Kamunting) who asked if the state government was planning to relocate its government agencies to Meru Jaya as the Menteri Besar residence would be built there.

Ahmad Faizal added that it was not only the Menteri Besar's residence that would be built there, but also houses for exco, state secretary, and state financial officers.

Earlier, when answering a question from Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (BN-Pangkor), Ahmad Faizal said the current state secretary’s official residence would be the Menteri Besar’s residence.

“The current residence still can be used for official events as it is equipped with good facilities and spacious area. However, it is no longer suitable to remain there and the land would be developed for a strategic development project,” he added.

The present official residence of the Menteri Besar is located in the city center.

The house would be demolished to make way for a development project with cooperation from the private sector and the state government.
