KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested three men for trespassing at the Selangor menteri besar's official residence in Shah Alam yesterday.

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the arrests were made following a report lodged by a man working as an operations assistant at the menteri besar's official residence.

"Investigations revealed that the suspects used a Proton Waja to enter the official residence through the main guard post without presenting any formal invitation from the state government.

"Acting on this information, arrests were made on the same day at 7.30pm where a vehicle, a Proton Waja, was also seized."

The suspects, Iqbal said, were between 31 and 35 years old and working as journalists for a local media outlet. They did not have any prior criminal records.

"They claimed they were attending a meeting at the menteri besar's official residence, but did not have a formal invitation from the Menteri Besar's Office."

He said that the suspects are all remanded for two days from Jan 6 to Jan 7 to assist in the investigations.

"Investigations are being carried out under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to 3 months or a fine of up to RM 1,000, or both."

Iqbal also advised the public to abide by the laws to prevent such incidents from occurring.

He also called for anyone with further information on the case to contact the Investigating Officer Inspector Mira Noraien Norashid at 011-11430765.

Earlier, a 29-second video went viral on social media, showing three individuals who were believed to have trespassed into the Selangor menteri besar's official residence

According to a police report sighted by the New Straits Times lodged by the residence keeper, a reporter earlier tried to walk into the residence but was stopped by the sentry.

After his first attempt failed, the reporter allegedly tried to sneak in by hiding inside a Proton Waja, which carried two other individuals who were going into the residence for a meeting.
