KANGAR: Perlis Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) claimed today it will soon expose wrongdoings by state Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders involving millions of ringgit.

PPBM Kangar secretary Muhd Nabil Kamal Bahrin claimed the leaders had siphoned off the money over the past five years, adding that the party had received many reports regarding the alleged wrongdoings.

He said among the projects where money had been siphoned off were those involving flood mitigation work.

“We are collating the evidence to be handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). We are about 85 per cent done and I am confident that we will have it completed by this week... we will make it known to the media who these BN leaders are,” he said.

Nabil claimed several people had lodged reports over the allegations before this but no action had been taken.

“There have been too many cases of power abuse here. This issue has been long covered up by the previous (federal) government... the state leaders have been protected and seem immune to action.

“As such, PPBM is collecting ‘black-and-white’ evidence, including proof of transactions and statements from witnesses to be handed over to MACC,” he said.

Nabil said the state needed to be “cleaned up”, in line with the “New Malaysia” theme under Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“People see Perlis as a small state, so nothing is done (about the power abuse). But this is not true. Something needs to be done. These cases of power abuse involved special allocations (for the people).”

Nabil urged those with information on any such cases to come forward and aid PPBM’s efforts.

“I believe there are many people out there who have information. We are ready and willing to work with them to help MACC.”
