BALIK PULAU: Mohd Khasim Mat Jusoh, 28, had promised to take his eldest son for Hari Raya shopping.

Muhammad Sabirin, 6, had wanted a new pair of Baju Melayu, a zipper bag and zipper shoes to be worn on the first day of Syawal.

The father and son’s plans were, however, dashed when the child was killed after being knocked down by a lorry while crossing the road at the Taman Sahabat flats in Teluk Kumbar here late last night.

The boy was alone when the 11pm accident occurred.

Speaking to newsmen when met today, Khasim said they were supposed to go Raya shopping next week.

“However, his death is fated, and he has left us forever,” he said.

Recalling the incident last night, Khasim said a neighbour had informed him that Sabirin was involved in an accident and they rushed to the scene.

“I had just finished performing the Isyak prayers and was shocked to get the news.

“By the time I arrived, my brother-in-law was already carrying my child. I was in a daze when I saw him covered in blood,” he said.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan said the child died on the way to the Balik Pulau Hospital for treatment.

“Initial investigation found that the victim was crossing the road from the left corner to the flats before he was rammed by the fish-laden lorry.

“The impact of the crash caused him to suffer serious head and bodily injuries,” he said.

The case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Sabirin was buried at the Masjid Maqbul Muslim cemetery in Teluk Kumbar at 10.30am today.
