PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) today pledged their support for and participation in the “Negaraku” initiative during a simple ceremony witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MAB chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Md Yusof and its chief executive officer Peter Bellew, were also present.
Bellew said Malaysia Airlines is proud to commit itself to the Negaraku initiative to underline its status as the only 100 per cent Malaysia-owned airline.
“Negaraku is a simple Bahasa Malaysia word that (translates to) ‘my nation’, but it means so much more than that.
"It speaks volumes for the pride and love Malaysians have for each other and their wonderful nation.
"And we, the national airline, are proud to be part of that, as we bear the Negaraku logo on behalf of each and every Malaysian whose day we represent worldwide,” said Bellew.
In embracing the Negaraku initiative, Malaysia Airlines is incorporating the spirit of Negaraku across its collaterals on-ground and online, as well as various touch points – it will feature the Negaraku emblem with special livery on a few aircraft; highlight Malaysian heroes who have brought pride to the country in the inflight magazine; and present special content in the inflight entertainment.
On a separate matter, Bellew said Malaysia Airlines is well on its way to recovery.
"In the last nine months, we have seen Malaysia Airlines’ load factor grow by 15 per cent.
"In Dec 2016, we had the highest load factor of any full service carrier in the world at 90 per cent; higher than American Airlines, British Airways and even Singapore Airlines," he said.
Bellew also said that the spirit of Negaraku is what had driven the national carrier forward.
