PUTRAJAYA: The mechanism of the targeted RON95 subsidy programme will involve a cross-ministerial discussion before its roll out next year, following a cabinet decision made on the policy.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) acting minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, however, did not elaborate further on the policy decision made.

He said the overall mechanism for the implementation of the targeted subsidy will be presented first by the Economy Ministry during the cabinet meeting.

"Discussion on the implementation of its mechanism is cross-ministerial, led by the Economy Ministry.

"(And) there is a special committee that involves all ministries including Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry," he told a press conference after the launch of the Symposium on Cost of Living (SCOL 2023).

Yesterday, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said the government will roll out a RON95 subsidy programme in the second half of 2024 (2H24), as part of its targeted subsidy programme.

Rafizi said a country where the top 20 per cent (T20) receive 53 per cent of blanket fuel subsidies is neither a sustainable model nor an equitable one.
