KOTA BARU: The government has no plans to revise the current electricity tariff in the country, said Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Energy and Natural Resources minister said the government took into consideration various aspects including the burden suffered by the people following the Covid-19 pandemic.

"It has been the policy of a concerned government not to burden its people especially in this pandemic period.

"For that, l would like to give my assurance that the government has no plans to revise the rate of the current electricity tariff for now or when the people and the country's economy are recovering from the pandemic," he said after attending a meeting with excellent students here yesterday.

Takiyuddin who is also Kota Baru MP said he has informed Tenaga Nasional Berhad that a proper study on the impact of the revision of the current electricity tariff would be done before any decision to change it was made.

"TNB must find its own way to balance between its services to the people and businesses.

"This is also my ministry's plan for a short, medium and long term strategy for the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP)," he added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will table the 12MP in the Dewan Rakyat at 11.30am tomorrow.
