KUALA LUMPUR: A school headmaster in Bintulu suspected of making false claims amounting to approximately RM125,000 has been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to an MACC source, the suspect, who is in his 50s, was detained at around 9.30pm on June 24 at his school and is being held for six days until June 30.

Initial MACC investigations found that the suspect had conspired with a company to make false claims related to the supply of food to a school hostel in the district, amounting to about RM125,000.

"The quantity of supplies delivered to the school was not the same as the actual amount that should have been provided," the source said in a statement.

The six-day remand order was issued by Magistrate Galvin Loo Wei Ling at the Bintulu Magistrate's Court yesterday (June 25).

Sarawak MACC director Hasbilah Mohamad Salleh confirmed the arrest when contacted and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
