KUALA LUMPUR: The federal Classified Crime Investigation Unit is investigating the alleged leak of details in the Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin murder probe.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the investigation is being carried out under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act, Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"Police have received two reports, one from the victim's family and the other from the case's investigating officer," he said.

Zayn Rayyan's family lodged a police report yesterday about a leak of details of the murder investigation on social media.

Earlier, federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police would work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the purported leak.

He said police would ask MCMC to block the posts and messages as they could disrupt court proceedings.

On June 13, Zayn Rayyan's parents were jointly charged at the Sessions Court with child neglect.

Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, both 29, pleaded not guilty before judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh.

If convicted, they face a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail term of not more than 20 years, or both.

Zayn Rayyan was reported missing on Dec 5 last year. His body was found a day later, about 200m from the apartment where the family lived.

His parents were arrested on May 31, and remanded into custody for a week.

The remand was then extended by six more days.
