KUALA LUMPUR: The Chemistry Department said it is currently analysing the blood sample of a 2-year-old victim who died in the food poisoning tragedy in Gombak.
The sample was handed over to the department by police investigators, it said.
"Chemists in the Toxicology Division are currently analysing the blood sample, and the analysis will be completed soon. Investigators will be informed as soon as the analysis is completed," the department said in a statement.
Earlier today, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the police are awaiting the report from the Chemistry Department.
"The police have already recorded statements from eight people, including the catering operator, school officials, and the victims' families, to assist in the investigation.
"It now depends on the Chemistry Department for the analysis and obtaining the results from them," he told the New Straits Times.
Two people, including the toddler and a 17-year-old boy have died of suspected food poisoning after they consumed food catered for a school programme in Gombak.
Another 82 people who attended the event also reported food poisoning symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, and nausea.
The source of the food poisoning is understood to be the fried mee hoon and eggs prepared for the event. The appearance and taste of the food had apparently "changed".
